LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT

The doorbell rang and I opened the door. She was standing right there staring at me. I stared right back and I knew it instantly – it was love at first sight. I wanted to hold her, pick her up, twirl her around, and cuddle her all at once. But then what if she runs away?
Such were my initial thoughts when I met little Anika for the first time. Anika is the two year old niece of my flat mate. Having heard umpteen stories about her, combined with my” not- so-usual’ love for tiny tots, I was longing to meet her one day. And there the day came before I knew it! My flat mate brought her home all the way from Chennai while her sister paid her a visit here in Bangalore.
Cute Little Anika has big eyes, brownish- black hair that ends in curls, an angelic smile and energy that is a little exceptional for a two year old girl. Not to forget her out of the world grasping capacity and clear diction. All this make it a pleasure to start a conversation with her.
I’ve always been curious about child psychology and what goes around in a child’s head till they are really able to convey their thoughts in a manner understandable to all ages. The way they stare at an individual, the kind of responses they give on seeing a stranger, their never- ending curiosity make children a perfect topic to conduct a study on.
I never miss waving at a little kid be it in the supermarket, a park or even while crossing the street. Being the youngest in the family I’ve never really had the opportunity to interact with children for a very long period. The neighbourhood’s kid, a cousin’s child or maybe a family friend’s new born, but it ends there.
Having little Anika 24/7 in the house for a week was one of the loveliest experiences I’ve had. We became instant friends and I was elated whenever she called out my name, SHA-REE-KKAA
Then the day arrived when I had to leave on an official trip. Sigh! All good things have to come to an end. So out I took my camera and clicked photos and videos of Anika. Anika and her mom had to leave before I returned from my trip. Wish she was there all the time!
But all said and done I must say I was happy to play and interact with a vibrant and smart child. Perhaps I’ll get to see little Anika more often. I just hope it is before she sports a long mane of silky hair and high heels and before I say good bye to my pair of sneakers and start using Ponds anti- wrinkle cream!

WASTE MANAGEMENT- WHOSE RESPONSIBILITY IS IT?

What’s Bangalore’s biggest nightmare? Those in mansions and bungalows can escape it once they are inside their homes. The roadside, slums, villages are filled with it. Think Global but Eat Local

The urban population in India has cut down on literally everything from their diet especially sugar, ghee, oil, carbs. Little do they know that it comes as a package: A slow cut down of nutrients, vitamins, essential minerals. Even hair, skin tone and energy level! Ask them what motivated them to do so and the obvious reply would be “To keep fit” Of course eating idli and chutney, poha or paratha does not sound half as cool as eating salads, soup or oats. Packaged, ready­made food have all been advertised as healthy. They have been marketed under various brand names. It is but of course a gimmick. One season the aisles of supermarkets will be filled with packets of wheat based cereal. The next season it would be gluten free followed by super nutritious sugar free cereal. A consumer who has been dying to lose some weight gets confused.
